ONE WEEK TO ROAD TRIP
Written by Brian Olsen

Next Thursday, I'll be leaving Vermont, a place I've lived off and on for more than six years. I was running around this afternoon on the firing range and thinking about the first time I was here, way back in 1999 at the ripe age of 15 for a training camp with Minnesota Biathlon. Lots of memories here.

I'm flying to Minnesota, where I'll pick up a car left by my parents, who left last week on a 2 year trip on their trawler around the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi, around Florida, and up the east coast.

Then I'm off to Colorado by way of Iowa to see my sister in Denver and check out the graduate programs at CU Boulder.

After a few days, I'll drive west to Utah via Wyoming. I'll be in Utah for the next several weeks until the competition season starts in late November.

Lots of travel. I'm looking forward to seeing some more of the country, though, even if most are places I've been to before.

Hope you're all having a great start to fall. The leaves have already started to change here in Vermont.

BACK FROM CHILE

It has been nearly two days of travel, but now I'm back in Vermont after a week in Chile. The races were successful as far as results go; I won both the biathlon and cross country ski races with good margins. The U.S. patrol race team put up a good fight, but in the end we finished 3rd. I was planning on updating on Wednesday, but a snow storm hit and I didn't use the internet again really until now. I'll post images and some more detailed updates in the next few days. Winter is almost here! You better be ready!

LOVING UTAH

Life has been pretty chaotic lately. Besides trying to hold down a full time training schedule, I'm also taking calculus and accounting in preparation for applying to business school this fall and studying for the GMAT examination. Not having taken any math in 10 years certainly made the quantitative section of the practice GMAT interesting!

Otherwise, I'm trying to enjoy life here in Utah, too, and making some new friends. The weather has been normal amazing western blue sky for the most part. It is hard not to be happy here! It is also unfortunate when I'm stuck inside all day, like today, sitting at my computer studying and working when I could have (and should have) been in the mountains fly fishing (or fly casting).

I'm here until next Tuesday, when I go to Vermont for five weeks, interrupted by a week in Chile and ended with a few days near Boston visiting graduate schools. Then I'll fly to Minnesota and drive back out here to Utah via my sister in Denver!

That's my update. Who knows if anyone has actually discovered the link to this section, yet.
