There are, in fact, crazy people in the world. Some are certifiably suffering from psychological disorders. There are some, however, who, because of their strong attachment to their beliefs, must reconcile the difference between those beliefs and reality by conjuring up stories of falsehood and conspiracy.
For example, today, I was researching the “Saxbe fix” policy. It “appeases” the Constitutional ban prohibiting members of Congress from serving in other civil capacities until their terms have expired. The framers of the Constitution had feared that members of Congress might create, and subsequently hold, bogus civil offices, thereby profiting from their power. The Saxbe fix has allowed Presidents of both parties to appoint members of Congress to Cabinet positions by reverting their salaries to the amount the Cabinet position earned prior to the appointees’ most recent Congressional terms. (Remember, Congress is tasked with approving Executive appointments and their level of compensation.)
So, there is a Foreign Service Officer (the Foreign Service is part of the State Department) who is suing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the State Department for violating the Constitution and requiring him to report to an unconstitutionally-appointed Secretary of State.

That seems like a valid argument, despite the fact that the Saxbe fix has been used in one form or another by Presidents of both parties dating back to the nineteenth century.
Then, using the magic of the “Internets,” that “vast series of tubes,” according to former Senator Ted Stevens, I was able to view other lawsuits filed against Hillary Clinton over the years. I hope she has a good lawyer: there are dozens.
But one struck me: it was filed by a convict against both Clinton and former Senator, poverty activist, former Vice Presidential candidate, former Democratic Presidential nominee hopeful John Edwards. It is hand-written on lined paper. It is insane.

There are also citizens of our fair land who are contesting the eligibility of President Barrack Obama from holding office because, they claim, he was not born in the United States. The Constitution, among other things, requires that individuals for the office of the President be natural-born citizens of the United States. President Obama was born in Hawaii. Those contesting his place of birth claim that each of the birth certificates produced by the former Obama campaign and the Hawaii Department of Health fail tests of authenticity.

I say racism, another form of madness and delusion, but one which is neither defensible, pitiful, nor contained within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) produced by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Take issue with President Obama’s politics, not his race.
