A few of us went fishing last night at a lake. It has been a very long while since I last went fishing, but my cast is still in good order. That didn’t mean that we caught anything! Fly fishing takes a lot of patience, especially when the fish are not biting. Not only in letting the fly sit on the water, but in the technique of the cast.

I got some advice on my cast last night that today, in some ways, transferred into my skiing technique. Skiing really is a beautiful thing. As athletes, we push ourselves to go faster and faster, hoping to gain every possible second through adding more and more power to our poles and skis.

Though this is nothing revolutionary, I am realizing that sometimes the best way of going faster is to use not more power, but utilizing every bit of power in a manner that moves me forward. This means that I have to try to go fast without seizing up and trying to control my movements. Instead, I must let my body control itself, letting it flow freely.
